Timothy J. “T. J.” Parsell (born July 12, ) is an American writer, filmmaker, and human rights activist committed to ending prison rape. He is best known for his book Fish: A Memoir of a Boy in a Man’s Prison. Directed by T.J. Parsell. With Jerry Broome, Bryan Dechart, Joe Hotham, Terrence Ruggiero. The author’s recounting of the sexual abuses he endured in prison are very graphic and wrenching. It was really rough, and I cannot begin to imagine coming out of a situation like this with any shred of sanity, let alone being able to live the life the author has lived since this time in his life and do the things he has done, fieh writing about his very traumatic personal experience for the world to tish.
I found it extremely gratifying to lend my narrative to the cause. What I found was a truly emotional story about a young gay man who came from a dysfunctional family and made some very poor choices in life. This is a true story and the author is only a few years older than I am. He even allows a few small jokes regarding how some prisoners talk, “But for the moment, I was preoccupied with trying to figure out if, don’t lose no good time was a triple negative, and if so, did that mean I didn’t want to don’t lose no, or if I wanted to not don’t lose some? It was a period of my life that continues to haunt me.
Something as innocent as accepting a cigarette from an inmate may be entrapment. I winced and turned my head away many times as I read this, as if I were turning away from a scene in a movie. Why claim to remember who used which hand to dribble or exactly how many baskets were scored? I only wish that the more positive and willing sexual moments were described in as much detail as the rape scenes.
